Description

This is the lesson plan that goes with the FREE video entitled "Introduction to the Magic One". (The video has now been uploaded to the Betta Math store in two parts that can both be downloaded for free.) This lesson starts out by introducing this concept with a Voki character. (I have found that this is a fun way to introduce various concepts because the students like the moving characters.)
Students will be asked to think about an explore the idea of what a whole really means. this lesson is a precursor to many other lessons that I have successfully used to teach fraction sense to my students. Other topics that I have used the "Magic One" concept with are:
Probability
Ordering and Relating Rational Numbers
Operations on Fractions
Comparing Fractions
