Description

Lesson Study is a professional development program for a Classroom Observation Plan that involves teachers working in small group lessons that address a shared learning goal for students. They then deliver these lessons while their peers observe, and refine the lesson plans based on feedback and review.

What is it?

  • Professional development is where a small group of teachers work together to observe, refine and review specific lessons.
  • Addressed and identifies student learning needs and any challenges faced
  • Provides a process for teachers to unpack their practice and improve student learning.

How to use this:

  1. Plan the lesson - teachers work collaboratively to draw up a detailed lesson plan
  2. First Class Observation - one teacher teaches this lesson, group members observe what the students are doing and understand.
  3. Post-Observation Discussion - group meets and discusses observation. Data is collected and the lesson plan is revised for the next lesson observation.
  4. Second Class Observation - Repeat Step 2 & 3.
  5. Third Class Observation - Repeat Step 2 & 3.
  6. Final Discussion - Discuss similarities and differences in lessons, a group report is created it outline the teacher's learning and student needs.
  7. Outcomes are shared with the school.
