This is lessons 2 - 5 of the series Create a Times Table Quiz while learning Spreadsheets.
Spreadsheets can be a teachers worst nightmare when trying to teach students. Use these resources to combine spreadsheet skills with creating a working quiz so the students can test their own times table skills.
These lessons cover many different spreadsheet skills that the students needs. We also touch on how you can use the ideas in these videos to help with algebra skills for older students.
View and copy the spreadsheet by copy and pasting this link into your browser: https://docs.google.com/a/gtrainerdemo.attechedu.com/spreadsheets/d/1RAOvyfDlLEEvvI_2AMi-MYAduibx6a7pp5yU_6WDvFg/edit?usp=sharing
We focus on how teachers can use spreadsheets in a creative way to create mathematical quizzes that can support learning in maths. The lessons also focus on key skills that students need in understanding spreadsheets. These skills include:
The use of cells, columns and rows
Copying down of cells
Using single quote to enter special characters as text
Using the Dollar sign to fix a formula position
Number sentence formula
The asterisk as a multiplication symbol
Conditions using the IF Function
Embedded functions with other functions
Formating cells with the fill option
Colouring cells based on conditions
As a teacher you can use this course with your students. I have used this with students as young as 8 and 9 years all the way up to students aged 13 and 14. The final lessons explores how you can adapt the times table lesson to create more complex algebraic equations.
The course is designed for you to learn as an educator and to also send out to your students.
