Description

I hope you enjoy this freebie phonics lesson. Please leave a review - It really helps me!

I'm in the process of updating and organizing my collection of phonics lessons that I've curated throughout my years as a Kindergarten teacher. Phonics education is a subject I'm deeply passionate about. If you find this lesson helpful, I encourage you to explore my other phonics resources, available for purchase. Additionally, keep an eye out for an upcoming bundle that will allow you to acquire the entire collection once I've completed the uploads. Thank you for your interest and support!

*Please read through this description and my teaching notes on the PowerPoint to ensure optimal success.

This phonics lesson introduces the /e/ sound through a PowerPoint presentation and video, accompanied by a PDF printout containing teacher notes and worksheets.

The lesson covers the following topics:

  • Introducing the letter
  • Explaining the difference between the letter's name and sound
  • Mouth formation for sound production
  • Writing lowercase /e/
  • A fun letter recognition game
  • Items beginning with the /e/ sound
  • Skill: Segmenting CVC word/s
  • Skill: Sound Substitution CVC word/s
  • Skill: Blending CVC word/s
  • A game for students to find the beginning sound
  • Ideas for consolidating learning with independent activities
  • 2-page worksheet for students to consolidate their learning

Teacher instructions and guidance are provided in the notes section.

Please note that this material is designed to be used with any phonics program and does not include program-specific instructions. Please incorporate additional multisensory tools such as sound actions, songs, stories, and handwriting techniques as needed.

You may choose not to use all the slides, depending on your students' age and needs. Sometimes, my students can only sit for half the lesson, so I break it up into two shorter sessions.

It is recommended to teach a maximum of two skills in each phonics lesson, such as initial sounds and segmenting. You can add or delete slides to cater to your specific needs and abilities. As the sound lessons progress, I will gradually introduce blending, segmenting, phoneme substitution, and deletion, and other skills alongside the introduction of new sounds. Although I might include instructions for more than two skills, it's up to you to decide which skills you want to focus on for each lesson. I will follow a common pattern for teaching sounds and will incorporate more skills in the upcoming lessons and the students learn more sounds and develop their "sound bank."
