Description
Here is a wonderful assignment for your students to find out more about themselves, but doing so through the eyes of another. It will have them practice their planning skills, oral presentation skills, interview skills, ability to self-reflect, and expository writing skills.
- Students will select a person who has known them well and long.
- Students will craft questions in advance of the interview.
- Students will sit down in a self-formal manner and conduct the interview, and record responses.
- Students will self-reflect on the interview and the interviewee's responses.
- Students will then write an expository structured report on the interview, what they learned, and self-reflect upon in.
A good colleague and I created this for our Grade 9 classes originally (she taught Social Studies and I taught English); however, over the years, I have used it for Grades 8 through 12, all to much success. Almost universally students appreciate the ability to interview someone close to them, find out more about themselves, and take a new perspective. I hope your students will find it just as engaging.
