Striped Science

Hello! I'm a passionate 7th grade life science teacher. I've had the privilege of educating students in middle and high school, as well as homeschool settings. With over 20 years of teaching experience, I've cultivated a deep love for science and a genuine desire to inspire young minds. Beyond the classroom, I've also served as a naturalist and interpretive educator at a zoo for over a decade, where I've shared my enthusiasm for wildlife and the environment with visitors of all ages.

My teaching style reflects a hands-on, interactive approach, where students actively participate in engaging activities and collaborative learning experiences. I believe that by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, my students can freely explore and discover knowledge together. In my quest to ignite a lifelong passion for science in my students, I strive to create an environment where curiosity thrives, questions are celebrated, and learning is an exciting adventure. Together, we embark on a journey of discovery and growth, embracing the wonders of science and the beauty of the natural world.

Throughout my career, I've been recognized with several honors and awards, including Volunteer of the Year, Teaching with a Worldview Curriculum Award, and the EcoTime Curriculum Award for my contributions to environmental science education.

My own educational journey includes earning an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology from UMN (University of Minnesota) and a master's in science education, also from UMN. These academic pursuits have deepened my understanding of the natural world and equipped me with valuable tools to guide my students effectively.

Outside of the classroom, my husband, our two children, and I cherish spending quality time together outdoors, immersing ourselves in the wonders of nature. It's a joy to share our love for the environment and wildlife as a family.
