Description
This print and cut half-sheet is great for practicing engineering concepts and provides teachers with an easy assessment tool.
Pairs well with units or lessons on light, day/night, and engineering.
1) Students design a solution to the problem: "It's too dark in the playroom."
2) Students test their design (suggested materials: a box for the house, flashlight, cardboard or block for the wall, small mirrors).
3) Students self-assess the the success of their design.
In my classroom, students worked in pairs with a shoe box house and the above materials. We had been talking about how light goes in a straight line, and this gave them the opportunity to practice with engineering concepts.
