Linear Equations Notes Pages AND Exit Tickets Bundle

What does this product contain? There are 12 student facing “notes pages” and aligned “Exit Tickets” in the Linear Equations domain in the CCSS for 8th grade math. Teacher keys for the notes pages, and exemplar student responses for the exit tickets, are also included. These are designed to be the heart of the lesson and formative assessment/independent practice at the end of the class period. Each set of materials in total would likely take between 20-35 minutes of class, depending on the difficulty of the objective.

Objectives Covered

1. Graphing proportional relationships & coordinate plane review

2. Finding the slope of a proportional graph

3. Graphing a line from an equation by creating a table of values

4. Finding the slope-intercept form of a linear equation from a graph

5. Graphing a linear equation in slope-intercept form

6. Finding the slope of a line from points or a table of values

7. Finding the equation of a line from two points

8. Horizontal and vertical lines

9. Determining if a point is on the line

10. Graphing a linear equation in standard form

11. Graphing a linear inequality

12. Graphing a linear inequality (part 2)

How I’ve used this product in my classroom: Here are a few ideas to effectively implement these notes pages and exit tickets into your classroom.

• You will notice the teacher key “work” is written in blue pen, and additional “annotations” are in a different color. Have students record the “work” in pencil, and have them 1) bring a pen to class or 2) pass out pens so that they can take the “annotation” notes in a different color, per your direct instruction. This is a great way to build students’ note taking ability as they enter higher levels of schooling. And, I’ve found kids love getting the chance to make their notes visually appealing!

• I handed out a notes page packet to students at the beginning of each unit, printed on cardstock paper (who doesn’t like a fancy cardstock packet?!). If used consistently, this notes packet will become a useful artifact from class that students can benefit from the entire year, including studying for exams!

• After using these scaffolded notes, students would be released into ~15 minutes of independent practice, and then a ~10 minute formative assessment (Exit Ticket).

How I sell these products:

• You can buy notes pages by unit, or as a bundle.

• You can buy exit tickets by unit, or as a bundle.

• You can buy each unit of notes pages and exit tickets paired together.

• You can buy all 63 notes pages and 63 aligned exit tickets as one large bundle [best value!]

Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving objects has greater speed.
Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same between any two distinct points on a non-vertical line in the coordinate plane; derive the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 for a line through the origin and the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 for a line intercepting the vertical axis at 𝘣.
Interpret the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear. For example, the function 𝘈 = 𝑠² giving the area of a square as a function of its side length is not linear because its graph contains the points (1,1), (2,4) and (3,9), which are not on a straight line.
