"I really like this resouce because of the variety of problems and that it can be differentiated. Some students may need more practice in either standard form or slope-intercept form and it's there. So is the mix. I like the before and after questions. Thank yo for creating!"

Description

You need a linear equations project that covers slope-intercept, standard form, and mixed practice — without being three separate assignments to grade.

Students who "don't like math" will spend 45 minutes arguing about which lines make their window look better. That's the project.

Students graph and write linear equations in slope-intercept form, standard form, and mixed practice — so you can use this as targeted practice or a full review. The before-and-after reflection questions are built in, and the answer keys plus two rubric formats (traditional and SBG/mastery) mean grading doesn't add to your load.

What's included:

  • Graphing + writing practice in standard form
  • Graphing + writing practice in slope-intercept form
  • Mixed form practice set
  • Answer keys for all sets
  • Traditional rubric + SBG/mastery rubric

Low prep. Works for emergency sub plans. Differentiates naturally — students who need more practice in one form get it without the whole class knowing.

Implementation Ideas: Break this into 3 practice sets

- Practice with Writing + Graphing in Standard Form

- Practice with Writing + Graphing in Slope-Intercept Form

- Or review practice with Mixed Forms Galore!

I used this as a cumulative project after 2 chapters on linear equations. I gave them both task worksheets and asked them to make a window. This took them 4 days in class and they were occupied the whole time. They were making connections and reviewing what we had learned the entire time. I'm also looking forward to hanging them up to brighten my room this winter! I will definitely use this project again.

My students loved this real-world application of linear equations! The mixed practice with slope-intercept and standard forms was very helpful for my students, and they were so engaged in the problem solving aspect and artistic creation.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities; graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales.
Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).
For a function that models a relationship between two quantities, interpret key features of graphs and tables in terms of the quantities, and sketch graphs showing key features given a verbal description of the relationship.
