Description

We can help students "make sense of problems and persevere in solving them" (MP1) by including more real world problems in our instruction. The slideshow, notes template, word problems and project included in this bundle will help your Algebra students access challenging linear programming and optimization problems.

Included in the Bundle:

- a slideshow to introduce linear programming (in pdf form, keynote, and powerpoint)

- a notes template to accompany the slideshow (pdf)

- additional practice: Gold Optimization problem (pdf, pages and word)

- Linear Programming Project with Rubric and sample project (pdf, pages and word)

- answer keys

Thank you for your consideration. Please let me know if you would like something added or revised through feedback!

Met expectations
Great value

I used the more complicated word problems as an example in my PPT. I hand out a 2 pages packet of the Henry the Woodworker to half of my students and a similar packet of Hats and Scarves. to the rest. Some students struggled to find all the constraints. These were great examples to introduce optimization. Day 2 I went over the precise solutions on the board and they enjoyed working on this concept. Thank you!

I used this for a linear programming lesson. Students typically struggle with this, so I really wanted to find questions that had integer values to introduce this topic. I loved the simplicity of the numbers as it made it easier for students to understand what to do. We can use this to increase difficulty later to decimal and fraction numbers.

Excellent resource. This was a great supplement to our unit on inequalities and linear programming. Very clear examples and instruction as well as clear answer key.

Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options in a modeling context. For example, represent inequalities describing nutritional and cost constraints on combinations of different foods.
Graph the solutions to a linear inequality in two variables as a half-plane (excluding the boundary in the case of a strict inequality), and graph the solution set to a system of linear inequalities in two variables as the intersection of the corresponding half-planes.
