Description

This exam and study guide assess students' understanding of all parts of a linear equation including slope as rate of change and the y-intercept as the starting point. Problems are set in a real-world context and require students to explain the meaning of each part of the equation in the context of the situation.

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

- Determine if a relationship is linear or nonlinear

- Write and graph linear equations

- Explain the meaning of the slope, y-intercept, independent and dependent variables

- Rewrite an equation in slope-intercept form, then graph the equation

- Find an unknown quantity using the linear equation

Before school closure, my accelerated 7th graders needed some challenges for the Linear Relationship unit, so I used the Rotation tasks with them. This was a way to formatively assess their understanding. I was pleasantly surprised that they really liked the rotation and the task cards. Thank you!

Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving objects has greater speed.
Solve linear equations in one variable.
