Description
The one-sided notes page provides notes on applying linear transformations to lines other than the parent function. The notes begin with a review of applying transformations to the parent function (2 questions) to warm-up with. Then, the student is given a line and a transformation or two that they need to apply to the line. They are to write the equation of the new line. (4 questions).
On questions 7 & 8 the student is given the equation of two lines and is asked to describe how the graphs compare to each other. Finally, on question #9, the student is given a word problem to apply their understanding of how m and/or b changes affects the graph. 9 questions. Key included.
The double-sided practice provides 14 questions over this topic. The first four questions give the student two graphed lines and asks them to find the slope and y-intercept of each one and then compare. Specifically they are asked how the slope changes from line f to g and how the y-intercept changes from line f to g.
Questions 5 and 6 give the student the equation of a line and then a transformation such as "the line is translated up 2 units" and then the student is asked to write the equation of the new line. Questions 7 through 10 give the student an equation of a line and a transformation. The student is asked to graph the new line and then describe how the lines are similar and different.
Finally, questions 11 through 14, the student is given the equation of two lines and asked to describe how the two lines compare. Some equations are written with to show how one function relates to the other such as g(x) = f(x) + 2. All other equations are written in slope-intercept form. 14 questions total. Key included.
