This inquiry lesson will get students thinking about rearranging formulas to isolate specific variables, and why that is useful!
In Part A, students think about formulas and how they can solve for specific unknown values. For example, if students know the perimeter and length of a rectangle, how can they find the width?
In Part B, students learn what a literal equation is and rearrange given formulas to isolate a specific variable.
In Part C, students use rearranged formulas to problem solve.
The included PowerPoint can be used in place of printing materials. It is also great for showing after the activity to discuss solutions.
It includes 3 versions:
•Task Card Version where students can work in partners or groups.
•Around the Room Version where students get out of their seats.
•No-Prep PowerPoint Version where students can work in groups or individually (and there’s no need to print anything.)
