Description

This packet includes two interactive notes templates and a partner check practice worksheet for learning long division.

How it works - Teachers provide the steps modeling the process of long division. Students can fill in the notes and copy the examples or just fill in the example.

When students are ready to practice, they are partnered up. Each partner receives a unique practice sheet. Each person completes their first problem on their own. Once finished partners check in with each other. If the answers match, that's an indicator that their answer is correct and they can go on to the next problem. If their answers don't match, partners work together to identify mistakes, make corrections, and find the correct answer. (Note practice problems are designed using three different division symbols, and have double-digit divisors).

A bonus handout including "Math Talk" for students can be copied on to the back of the practice worksheet to guide mathematical conversations.

Answer keys included, along with an example of a completed notes page.

Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
