Long division can be challenging for students to learn as it requires students to perform multiple operations (division, multiplication, subtraction, and addition when using the partial quotients method). These worksheets will assist students with a level of scaffolding to help them throughout the process.

The Division Using Partial Quotients worksheets supports students who are beginning long division with this alternative approach that simplifies the division process, making it easier for students to understand and follow. By starting with this method, students can build a strong foundation and develop confidence in their ability to tackle further division problems using the standard algorithm. Depending on the multiples students choose to use, the number of steps can vary between students. To allow for this variation, there is room for students to use up to five quotients. However, I encourage my students to use as few quotients as possible, since this method is the bridge to using the standard algorithm.

The Division Using Standard Algorithm worksheets provide students with opportunities to practice and master this commonly used method. These worksheets include a range of division problems, enabling students to develop proficiency in this method and increase their speed and accuracy when solving long division problems.

For students who need further support, there is also a Handy Multiples sheet. This sheet provides a reference for students, helping them to quickly find suitable multiples that will aid them in solving long division problems. This resource is particularly useful for students who may struggle with multiplication and need a quick and easy way to find suitable multiples.
