This product features worksheets for ten common long vowel patterns (a_e, ai, ay, ee, ea, i_e, igh, o_e, oa, u_e). For each pattern, 6 or 8 representative pictures are given. The pictures themselves are black and white outlines that are able to be colored if desired. Under each picture, a handwriting space is provided with some blanks spaces and some traceable letters. For half of the pictures, the vowel pattern is given and students must fill in the surrounding letters. For the other half of the pictures, the surrounding letters are provided, and the vowel pattern is missing. This forces students to practice the correct use of the different long vowel patterns as well as to encode the sounds they hear surrounding the patterns. The traceable letters and lines provided also help to strengthen handwriting. These worksheets can be a great addition to your literacy centers or whole/small group instruction, and they also make wonderful homework sheets!
