I have very mixed feelings about this resource. At best, it was a really great starting point for extended activities about the novel but all the resources needed heavy editing by me for a variety of reasons, which I will detail below. The main takeaway is that, for me, this was not a resource that I could purchase and immediately teach - it needed a lot of revision before my students could interact with it. Character Analysis: A lot of the slides were not in the correct order. It would add an explanation of what characterization is, after the students were already asked to find examples of characterization. There were a few slides that were completely unnecessary and would cause students to lose interest so I deleted those. It also lacked specificity as to how many examples students needed to find. I ended up copying the STEAL method into the student work and having them use that to guide their characterization search. This was the one that took me the least amount of time to get ready for students to interact with. Quotation Analysis: Again, this one lacked specificity as to how much students needed to include. I ended up selecting the quote for students. The annotation instructions that went with step 1 were not worded in a kid-friendly way and needed to be rewritten. Setting Activity: This one was the one my students struggled with the most. I started with this one and this is when I realized how much editing would be required of these. I had to add in a couple videos to provide them with more context and understanding about the skills they were being asked to use that were not in there. Theme Activity: This one was probably one of the better ones. The slides needed to be rearranged to support the best scaffolding but I didn't need to add anything in. The wording on the student work page needed serious revision at times because it wasn't using student friendly language. Symbolism Activity: I don't think my students are mentally ready to process symbolism yet, so I did not attempt this one.
