Description
When I was working through the MAT1L course with my Vocational students, I noticed that they were needing some kind of reference page as we were working through each chapter. When they were having to flip back pages to find the information they needed, it was breaking their focus and causing frustration, which is when I made these reference placements. I printed them out (on a legal sized paper), laminated them, and kept them at the front of the room for those who needed it. Each student could also have their own personal one to keep on them. Not only did they work well for quick references, but I noticed a significant uptick in their overall ability to understand course concepts and ideas as we were eliminating barriers to understanding and keeping the information they needed displayed in a clear and concise manner. I hope these placemats help you and much as they helped me!
Based upon “Math Essentials - Grade 9” by McGraw-Hill Publishing.
The Chapter 1 placement includes:
- Coin values
- How to turn fractions into percents
- How to turn percents into fractions
- How to turn fractions into decimals
- How to turn decimals to fractions
- When to round up or round down
- Ontario HST
- Basic operations and other terms they can be called
- How to divide quickly by 10
