Description
Are you looking for a hands on activity on comparing objects based on measurable attributes for special education? This activity comes with 20 different task cards that focus on length, mass, area and capacity. Students will assess which of 2 objects are longer/shorter, heavier/lighter, has the most surface area/least surface area, and can hold the most capacity/least capacity. This activity is ideal for the Grade 1 measurement unit.
Key concepts
- Every shape or object has several attributes that can be compared. The same shape or object can be described and compared using different attributes.
- There are particular words that describe commonly measured attributes:
- length is the distance from one point to the other and can be measured in any direction;
- area is the amount of surface an object has;
- mass is how heavy an object is;
- capacity is the amount an object holds;
LOW PREP!
- Print (I suggest 2-4 slides per page so it is task card size)
- Cut each task card
- Laminate so it can be reused year after year!
- Student reads the question and answers it by using a clothes peg on the correct answer
- Store the cards in a container, ziploc bag or keyring
