Description
As a fellow dyslexia therapist, I created these MTA Reader lesson plans to provide consistent, high-impact instruction aligned with the principles of structured literacy. Each plan follows a model that supports decoding accuracy, comprehension, and fluency—aligned with MTA Readers published by MTS Publications. MTA Readers are NOT included in these plans. These plans were created to serve as a consistent approach while using MTA Readers during my dyslexia therapy sessions.
Each lesson includes:
- Engaging hooks that build background knowledge and introduce key vocabulary
- Irregular Word Review (IRW) routines to front-load high-frequency words
- Page-by-page comprehension questions to guide discussion and deepen understanding
- Punctuation and intonation instruction using ABC Conversation Cards supporting prosody and intonation skills within fluency
- WH-question guided summary frames to support oral or written retelling and summarizing
These MTA Lesson Plans are designed to keep instruction prescriptive, diagnostic, and engaging—whether you're working one-on-one or with a small group. These plans help readers connect phonics skills with meaningful reading experiences, while offering structured support for both verbal and written language expression.
