Magnitude Unit - Candy Theme

This is a mini unit about Reasonable Magnitude. Magnitude is a Virginia SOL and is similar to estimation. I’ve created this unit to help students understand the concept. This unit includes:

Candy Magnitude Cards –students can use these cards to practice and review magnitude.

Gumball Magnitude Cards- students can use these cards to practice and review magnitude.

Magnitude Sort- students will sort the candy picture into the correct header.

Magnitude Candy Jars- beforehand teacher will need to fill four jars with various candies. Students will look at the jars and decide about how much is in each.

Make your own Magnitude problem with gumballs creativity - students will color a certain amount of gumballs and glue them to their large gumball machine. Then they will write their own gumball problem. The gumball machine, title, and magnitude problem will need to be glued to a large sheet of construction paper.

VA SOL 1.5 Students will select a reasonable magnitude from three given quantities: a one-digit numeral, a two-digit numeral, and a three-digit numeral.

Check out my Magnitude mini book too.

Have fun teaching Magnitude!
