Description

This is a simple note taking sheet and test that I used during the time I taught my students about main idea and supporting details. We read simple stories to begin illustrating the main idea, then increased in difficulty as we learned. The main idea "table" was the BEST thing! My kids really connected the table top being the "main" and big idea in a story, just like a real table. The legs were an easy way for them to remember that supporting details "hold" the story up, just like real table legs do. We discussed "extra" details being the things that the author threw in for details. The test is fairly simple, but shows their mastery of the skill. Aligned with 3, 4, and 5th grade Common Core standards for finding and supporting the main idea and details in a text.
