Make an Inference Writing Station

Do you need an easy, fun way to teach how to make an inference? In this station, students study a photograph and complete the statement I think ___ because I see ___. This builds an early foundation of providing evidence to support an inference. Two recording sheets are provided, one that only requires a written response, another that requires students to imitate the picture by drawing what they see which allows you to scaffold or differentiate. The great thing about this product is that it can serve as a year-round self-sustaining station to support the reading strategy of making and supporting inferences with evidence.

These pictures are the best to get students started or to practice making inferences. I love using these as writing opportunities for kids. They are so creative and with some guidance and question prompting, students are able to make inferences about the picture. I challenge my higher students to make stories out of the pictures!

This is a great resource to use with students to help them use their inferencing skills. It is very engaging for visual learners and even my students who aren't very artistic enjoyed drawing their own version of the picture provided and coming up with their own inferences. Thank you for a great resource!
