Valentines Day Making 10 Puzzles: These colorful heart puzzles are a great way to teach your students number pairs that make 10. An excellent activity for math centers or independent work. There are three different sets of making 10 puzzles ranging in difficulty level to help students with this skill.

Making 10 Heart Puzzles
The hearts are broken. Help find the perfect pairs 6+4, 5+5, 2+8, that make 10 to complete the hearts. Connect the most hearts to win.

Common Core Skill:
Your students will learn which pairs of numbers added together make 10.

Game Play:
Using the heart mat take pieces that go together to complete the heart puzzle. Count the hearts to make sure they add to ten. If they don' find the pieces that match. Once you have a match set those pieces aside. The next person goes. Continue until all the heart pieces are gone.

Differentiated Instruction:
There are three making 10 games that build on one another. The first game each puzzle piece pairs has its own color. This makes it clear which pieces go together. The second game all the puzzle pieces are pink but the pieces have heart symbols to help students count. The third game all the puzzle pieces are the same but don’t have heart symbols to help count.
