Description

Combine literacy skills with science! Use synonyms to help students make more detailed observations of objects around them. Students will learn synonyms for the common words "hard," "soft," "bumpy," "smooth," "round," and "sharp." They get practice first using these synonyms with guiding words, then making their own decisions on which synonyms to use. On the second page, they write the synonyms for each of the six common words. Finally they do a hunt around the classroom to find an object that matches nine of the synonyms. This helps them learn how to use the synonyms in context and attach meaning to the words.

I was having a hard time getting my students to make better observations during our experiments. They are in 3rd grade so this helped them learning different synonyms for the words they were used to using in second grade.
