Description

Do your students need more practice making predictions when they read both fiction and non-fiction texts? Build their reading comprehension skills in using picture evidence and prior knowledge to predict outcomes with this bundle of task cards and full page picture cards!

What's included in this making predictions bundle?

* 50 full page picture cards with guiding questions to encourage your students to use picture evidence and their own prior knowledge to make a reasonable prediction. The photos and illustrations are relevant to the experiences of elementary school-aged children, and will help your students master the skill of making predictions before they apply the predicting strategy in text reading.

* The same 50 cards with the same guiding questions in task card format, printing at four per page, plus ten bonus task cards!

* A one page teaching chart for introducing or reviewing the skill of predicting outcomes

* Three printable blackline pages for practice or assessment

* An exclusive Bundle Bonus - a set of pictures for teaching the comprehension skill of comparing and contrasting!

You'll find reading comprehension vocabulary in this set like predict, prediction, evidence, schema, and prior knowledge. Repeated exposure to these terms will make it easy to have them become part of your students' working vocabulary!

How can you use these resources to help your students become experts at making predictions?

* Use the teaching chart to introduce making predictions to your class. Also useful for small groups and remediation.

* Display a full page poster on your interactive board and "think aloud" to model how you would predict the outcome. Do the same with another card and have your students think about or write a prediction. This is a great moment to have a turn and talk, with each of your students sharing predictions with another student.

* Put six task cards on a ring in a literacy center. Have your students choose one to write about when they visit the center. This set of task cards will supply you with 10 weeks of no prep literacy center activities!

* Literacy intervention teachers, discuss a card and review making predictions once a week for spiral review that will keep your students' skills sharp!

* Use the blackline pages for independent practice or for assessment.

I love the repetition that allows students to be independent in their work as well as the increasing level of complexity throughout the year. And top it off with a cherry that it aligns with standards!
