As a young person, I had ALWAYS hated to read. It was amazing the great lengths I would go to escape reading a novel assigned as homework! I did NOT know that you were supposed to:
1. use all 5 of your senses while reading, and
2. become the character.
Now days, I teach reading to middle school students in a behavior program and I love helping students create a love of reading through using the tools they were born with! Their 5 senses!
This is a common sense, no nonsense way to teach reading to reluctant readers!
One of my students this year was making “F”s on every reading quiz we had. I taught this method and he went straight to making “A”s!!! He was so proud of himself! He looked at me holding his first “A” paper and said, “I always thought I was dumb, but I’m not!” It was a moment that we teachers live for!
