Description
This is a one week unit that prepares students for the realities of managing finances in the future. The Unit takes one week to introduce students to what it takes to manage their finances.
Students are taught how to plan for a possible career in the future. They will review the requirements necessary for this job, as well as the expected median income. After they have chosen a career they will be required to make a budget and be given options to choose a phone, car, house, etc. They will deduct their bills from their monthly income (after taxes, which will be deducted as well).
There will also be a lesson teaching students how to properly write a check, which can be used to pay for all of their bills. This lesson has a corresponding PPT to go with it.
This unit could be used as an extension to your students math class for the remainder of the school year. Students can be paid monthly or bi-monthly and be required to pay their bills on their assigned due dates. There is also a lot of room for individualization, as well as adaptation for the teacher who uses this unit.
