This is a really cool Map Building Project that includes the letter to the parents describing to detail the expectation of the assignment. The students learn the components of the map (key/legend, symbols, compass rose, etc.) and how to interpret symbols and read a map. It also includes the grading rubric which I send home as well with the letter. Parents and students have loved this Social Studies project! Enjoy!
