Do your students need some further independent practice following their science of reading or UFLI phonics lessons? Use with phonics picture and word cards. Map the sounds for the word by putting a dot for each sound in a box, Graph it by writing the letters for each sound in a box and then write the complete word. Elkonin boxes can be used to teach phonemic awareness by having students listen for individual sounds and marking where they hear the sounds in boxes. These sheets can be used whole class or small group as a follow up to a lesson, in a centre or as individual practice.
