Description

Students will create their own maps using this fun, creative activity to learn about reading maps. Students love designing maps with towns, cities, parks, and islands. They complete practice worksheets and create their maps. This project based learning activity is a hands-on way to interact with maps.

You receive:

  • 4 map worksheets - becoming progressively more difficult
  • 2 compass rose pages for students to complete (choose the level you need)
  • 6 different "Make Your Own Map" project pages to choose from
  • 3 differentiated map keys
  • A blank "Make Your Own Map" page for maximum student creativity
  • Answer keys for the map worksheets

Students will interact with the following:

  • map symbols
  • map key
  • cardinal directions
  • intermediate directions
  • compass rose

This Make Your Own Map Project includes:

  • A choice of three map keys:
    • partially filled-in symbols with cardinal directions
    • partially filled-in symbols with intermediate directions
    • one with blank map symbols with intermediate directions

  • Different maps to choose from - students can really get creative!
  • Map Skills are an essential part of social studies and life skills.
