This lesson utilizes a familiar object, a lunch tray, to teach two basic map skills concepts: aerial view & the map key. Students place a lunch tray on the floor and draw the items on the tray in aerial view. Then they create a key to explain their drawings.

We have completed this unit successfully. My 2nd graders had fun doing this activity and it met the goal of introducing mapping, aerial views, map keys, and we added a compass to top it off. We made a bulletin board to display our work for our upcoming conferences......Thank you....
