Description
This is great for young learners just beginning word problems!
This resource includes 31 words problems for your students to work through, plenty for one a day!
Problem topics include Read Across America, St. Patrick's Day, and March Madness!
Students must show their word for each problem and check it through several ways.
-Students must write the equation
-Show on a ten frame
-Use a number line
-Use a part-part-whole mat
-Sketch-it
This gives young learners several ways to practice finding the answer. I have seen great improvement in my students ability to solve word problems after using these for only 2 weeks! They have a new confidence for word problems! My students do these for morning work, and then we work through them together.
CCSS - 1st grade
CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.1
Also helps meet K and 2 CCSS
CCSS.Math.Content.K.OA.A.2 Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.1
