Description

For this activity you will be explaining the concept of marginal utility, which fits in with the economic concept of marginal thinking. This activity is a great way to differentiate your instruction and get the class involved in this topic. It is one of the more memorable lessons I teach and reference through out the school year. You will need some cookies or other treats for your students, other materials include a white board and projector. I would also recomend a notebook or a table and graph paper.

Choose one volunteer to measure their utility for cookies, I usually use Oreos. Then have them measure their satisfaction as they consume one more unit. As you go along have the other students record the data until you hit 0 or negative marginal utilIty. Then have the class graph and discuss/reflect on the lesson.
