Description

Marigold Math is designed to engage students in productive visual thinking. We have combined traditional Montessori Materials and the youcubed philosophy of Jo Boaler. Our intention is to move in a direction that allows the student to explore the material and "grapple" with the concept a bit, prior to a lesson presentation. The goal is to facilitate visual processing that will build a foundation for deeper mathematical understanding.

Drawings, materials, and motion guide students through multiple representations of mathematical concepts. The students develop ‘grit’ as they use their new understanding to ‘grapple’ with extended questioning and powerful mathematical learning.

This set of cards explores common core state standard 1.OA.8 "Operations and Algebraic Thinking." The student will be able to determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers.
