Description

Get students excited about coding with real-world challenges with a Mars Rover theme! Students will first research more about the red-planet and learn more about what scientists, engineers, and programmers are using Rovers for on Mars. Students will be challenged to prepare for their mission through a variety of optional "Mars preparation" challenge cards (which include research, designing, and engineering tasks) and then move onto various real-world scenario coding challenges. The coding task cards are self-paced and easily scaffolded to both students who need more of a challenge and those who may need more support/scaffolding.

This unit can be used with any block-based or "touch button" coding robotics you currently have, including, but not limited to: Spheros/Sphero minis, Ozobots, Dash & Dot, Finch, Bee Bots, Lego robots, Code & Go Mouse, Microbit Robots, and more.

This product includes:

  • 4 printable Mars "mission preparation" challenge task cards (that include research, engineering, and more)
    • This is an optional extension before moving onto the coding. There is an option for students to create their own Mars coding mat/poster.
  • 8 printable Mars rover-themed coding challenge task cards
  • A printable Mars coding mat
    • (optional to use, do not use if having students make their own Mars mat/coding poster).
    • You can print this out the size of a sheet of paper for smaller robots like Ozobots, or use a poster printer to print it larger for robots like Spheros/Dash and Dot/etc.
