Description
16 Pictures, 16 words
Common Core: 3.MD.A.2
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l).1 Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.2
Ways to play this game/ sort these cards:
1. Sort these pictures in order from least mass to greatest mass. Can be used whole group or small center to introduce the concept of mass, grams and kilograms. Can be used as an assessment for ESL students.
2. Sort pictures that will be measured in grams, and pictures that would be measured using kilograms. Place to correct word next to the correct picture.
3. Play a game of memory. Place all cards face down, try to match a picture with the correct estimate word.
4. Play a game of war. Evenly divide the cards between players place top card down, the player with a card that would measure kilograms gets both cards. Get the same estimate?--go to war just like the card game.
