A fun and easy way to integrate maths when learning about and celebrating Matariki (The Māori New Year).
THE CHALLENGE
There are 10 graphs, each with 10 questions (total of 100 questions). How many questions can you answer correctly?

- 10 bar graph worksheets
- Student recording sheet (single sided or double sided)
- Answer sheet
- Certificates (score out of 100 or score as a percentage)

ABOUT THE GRAPHS
- 5x horizontal bars (2x single, 2x double, 1x triple bars)
- 5x vertical bars (2x single, 2x double, 1x triple bars)
- The numbers on the axis increase by 1, 2, 5, 10 or 50.
- Nine graphs have bars that represent whole numbers (eg 18) and one graph has bars that represent half numbers (eg 18.5)
- All graphs are black/white/grey. The only colour is on the certificates.
Made on A4 size paper.
Once printed, the graphs can be used multiple times as the students do not write on the sheets.
Great for new learning or revision of previous learning.
Great independent activity for your students if you are busy with mid-year assessments.

HOW THE CHALLENGE WORKS
1. Make about 5 copies of each worksheet and place them in piles on a table in your classroom.
2. Give each student a ‘recording sheet’.
3. Students take one worksheet to their desk and complete the answers on the recording sheet. When finished, they return the worksheet to the correct pile and take another one. The graphs can be completed in any order and at a speed that suits the learner.
4. The teacher reads out the answers and the students mark their work.
5. Give certificates (optional).
A time component can be added if you wish (eg a maximum of 60 minutes to complete 100 questions).
If you don’t want to do the ‘100 Question Challenge’, you can use the worksheets in any way you wish. For example:
- Within a math lesson.
- Early finisher activity.
- Math station.
- Homework activity.
- Assessment activity.
