Description
This Math 1 video with its supporting worksheet is titled:
"Math 1 - Unit 4 - Lesson 9 Exponential Decay Functions - Equation, Graph and Table"
This is the 9th lesson video of the series of lesson videos for Unit 4 - Integer Exponents and Exponential Functions that is part of the Math 1 curriculum.
In this video, I review the concept and solution method associated with "Exponential Decay Functions - Equation, Graph and Table" that is part of the Math 1 curriculum. In this video lesson, only integer exponents are reviewed. Fractional or Rational Exponents are covered in Math 2/3 and Algebra 2.
This lesson begins with a brief review of the general concepts and characteristics associated with integer exponents and a refresher on percent to decimal and decimal to percent conversions. This information is fundamental for knowing how to analyze and solve Exponential Decay Functions. Following this review the lesson is divided into the following three (3) parts:
- Part 1 - Equation Review
- Part 2 - Graph Review
- Part 3 - Table Review
Part 1 includes a detailed review of the characteristics of the Exponential Decay Function or Equation. Three (3) slides are reviewed in this part of the video lesson to promote student understanding of the development and use of the Exponential Decay Equation.
Part 2 includes a detailed analysis of two (2) Exponential Decay Function graphs and the solution methodology that can be used to determine the equation of the curve plotted on the graph grid. Blank templates of the solution method and the graph grid are provided in the event the teacher wishes to use them for other student-assigned problems.
Part 3 includes a detailed review and analysis of two (2) tables that contain data points for Exponential Decay Equations. The method to determine the growth equation from the coordinate tables is covered in detail using two (2) example tables. A blank template is also provided for this part of the lesson for use if desired to assist in solving other problems.
The video lesson covers a total of 28 MS PPT slides for instruction purposes. Finally, there is a worksheet referenced at the end of the video for the students to complete as required by their teacher. The worksheet contains a fill in the blank Exponential Decay Function table and four (4) additional exponential growth graphing and table problems.
The above-referenced student worksheet is included as a separate attachment to this video package along with the teacher answer key for the worksheet. Answers to all example problems covered in the video and to the four (4) problems and fill in the blank table included on the separate worksheet are provided with this product. In addition, blank solution templates are provided within the video lesson that can be printed for use in solving any additional problems that may be assigned by the teacher.
