PDF & GOOGLE VERSIONS IN ONE PRODUCT - Life Lessons are short math warmups that involve everyday tasks that students will need to understand as they grow up and become responsible citizens. Life Lessons - Math Along Route 66 contains 16 warmup sheets for students that involve calculating the real life expenses associated with a journey along historic Route 66 in the United States. The warmups increase in difficulty. There are four warmups for each of the following levels of difficulty which build upon the difficulty of the previous levels:
- Level 1, Calculation of the total miles completed on each leg of a journey on Route 66. Includes actual cities and real world mileage for stops along an east to west trip on Route 66 beginning at the start of the route all the way through the end in Santa Monica, CA.
- Level 2, Calculation of average miles per leg of a trip along the western part of Route 66. Includes Route 66 cities and real world mileage for stops in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
- Level 3, Calculation of total miles driven, total gallons of gasoline used and average miles per gallon expended along specific legs of Route 66. Includes Route 66 cities and real world mileage.
- Level 4, Calculation of percentage of total expenses for categories such as food, lodging, gasoline, etc. used for various excursions along Route 66.
These warmups can be used for students in late elementary, middle school, high school and adult learning programs. They can be used individually as warm-ups throughout the year or as part of a cross-curricular lesson involving Route 66.. Lessons can be differentiated by student skill level and taught in a single lesson if desired.
