This page is a great cross curricular activity. I place a tub of math books out and they hunt inside the books for numbers, shapes, and draw how the author showed math being done in the story. This is used for a station during my math block.

On the shapes portion, I modeled finding items in pictures which resemble shapes (a cookie for a circle, a car window as a square, etc.) They really love this activity and I like to see the literacy involvement during our math time.
