Description

Do your students understand better when they are using the close reading strategy in reading? Why not apply that strategy to math? These math worksheets follow the same easy to use strategy that students are used to when close reading a text.

Close Reads are becoming more and more important as we continue to work toward meeting state and national math standards. Close reading of a math problem will help your students to make sense of any multi-step word problem and develop a guide for their work.

This resource includes:

Close Read Graphic Organizer: Train your students to reread and to make note of important information.

Close Reading Math Bookmarks: There are 3 per page (one page is black and white, and the other is colorful). Print on card stock and keep in your math centers, have students glue them into their journals for easy reference, and you can even tape the bookmarks to their desks!

How To Check Your Work Bookmarks: There are 2 per page (and one full-size poster) included. Print on card stock and keep in your math centers, or have your students put them in their homework folder and math folder for easy reference.

Four Posters:

→ picture cues and text

→ all text

→ CUBES Acronym

→ How To Check Your Work

Math Close Reads: I included 12 pages of Math Close reads (each page has one math problem and the close read graphic organizer). The problems increase rigor as you move through the packet. As you move through the pages in this resource, you will see that the problems increase in rigor. Students will read each word problem several times with the purpose of comprehending the problem, creating a model, forming an equation, and writing an answer that MAKES SENSE.
