Description
Keep students engaged at the end of the school year by having them create a Math board game! Guidelines for the project, a list of Grade 5 Math concepts, and ideas for planning are included.
Suggested timeline for teachers:
-Introduce the project and expectations--I have a sample board that I show students
-Put students in groups/allow students to choose groups
-Give students time to brainstorm what concept(s) they will focus on, a theme for their game (if any), and a design for their board
-Have students decide what role(s) they will carry out for the project
-Check rough drafts of game boards, rules, problem cards, and answer keys
-Monitor progress as students work on final boards
-Allow for a peer feedback session (I do this "gallery walk" style with the opportunity for classmates to tell their classmates what can be improved for their games
-When final games are done, let them play each other's game!
