What math skills can I expect this resource to cover for this month? multiplication and division within 100

Why use our number sense building resources?

I created a resource that I always wanted in the classroom that students will actually enjoy doing. Math is more than memorizing facts and relying on formulas.

****Let's teach students that flexibility and efficiency are just as important as the solution to the problem. There is no list of steps to memorize to complete Symbol Solutions. Instead, students will need to look for patterns and use a variety of number sense strategies to solve. Counting on, doubles, counting back and break apart are some of the many mental math strategies students will utilize.

What is included in this resource?

  • 20 Symbol Solutions Prompts- these prompts are available in print and digit (PowerPoint) form.
  • Answers key
  • Recording sheet
  • Tips for getting started with symbol solutions and how to introduce them to your students

Benefits to using symbol solutions in your classroom:

  • Benefit #1- Builds number sense skills: requires students to think about math problems in different orders
  • Benefit #2- Increase mental math capability: helps students understand the inverse relationships between operations Part of fluency is understanding how the operations work and go together.
  • Benefit #3- Grow student engagement: bright graphics make the math visually appealing and fun
  • Benefit #4- Low prep for teachers: pick which format you want (digital or print) and you are ready to go!
  • Benefit #5- Frontloading: helps build a foundation for algebraic thinking
