Help your students build fluency in addition and subtraction and build a strong foundation for future math success.

Simply print out a class set of the pages. Cut the sun and cloud pages in half, as they were made to conserve paper with 2 assessments on each page. Store all of the pages in clear plastic pockets in a large 3 ring binder, or in file folders. Each student begins with the sunshine +0 page A. If the student masters that page, he/she moves to the sunshine +1 page A. If the student does not master a page, he/she stays on that level and uses page B the next time. Practice and re-assessment continue in this manner, until each student has mastered their sunshine addition facts. Next, students move onto the cloudy subtraction facts races. Finally, students put it all together in the Rainbow Math Races. Students who need additional challenge/enrichment have challenge levels as well, also included in this resource!

Record your students' progress on the teacher data sheet. Help your students be responsible and reflect on their learning by each student tracking personal progress on the student data sheets. Help them set their goals and acheive them by assisting each child in filling in his/her personal goal setting sheets. Finally, build a class data wall by having students work together to earn rays of sunshine, cloud puffs, rainbow stripes and for those who need the challenge, a pot of glittering gold. Once the entire class has mastered their addition and subtraction facts fluently, you will have collaboratively built a beautiful display, representing marvelous mathematicians!
