Do your students struggle with math problem solving and identifying the correct operation to use? This key word sort helps students to recognize certain key words and/or phrases that may show up in word problems, that will help students identify which operation to use.

Suggestions for classroom use:

- This resource could be used as an independent activity and/or informal assessment, or as a small group math station.

- Provide each student with a copy of the word bank, and then one of each of the four operation worksheets (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

- As students go through their word bank, have them cross out the words and write them on the correct coordinating operation worksheets.

- To use as a small group math station, you can provide each group with 1 word bank, and then place the four operation worksheets in plastic dry erase pockets so that they can be re-used over and over again.
