The pack includes 11 lessons, each consisting of 3 to 13 teaching slides. These slides are perfect for displaying on a screen for whole class or small group instruction. The lessons guide learners through the following concepts:

✔ determining if it is a pattern or not

✔ how to label patterns (e.g. ABB, ABC, ABBC etc.)

✔ the pattern core

✔ pattern rules

✔ types of patterns: repeating, increasing, and decreasing

Each lesson has corresponding practice pages to reinforce the lesson. Most lessons have 3 or 4 practice pages each. All the pages are Print and Go, to save you time.

Students will complete activities such as:

• going on a pattern walk
• building repeating patterns with classroom materials and drawing them
• color yes/no to show if it is a pattern or not
• fixing errors in patterns
• circling the core of the pattern
• extending the core
• label patterns with letters / numbers
• drawing patterns from labels
• draw a pattern by following the pattern rule
• writing the rule of a pattern
• identify the attribute that is changing
• draw patterns with different attribute changes
• sort repeating / increasing patterns
• draw terms of increasing patterns by following the pattern rule
