Description
These print and go math puzzle worksheets for summer will help your students explore and develop their algebraic thinking skills as they solve for the summer symbols. Each worksheet is a puzzle that takes the students a step further from discovering the value of the symbols, to comparing and ordering the symbols based on their value, to using the symbols to create their own equations. I assure you, these are not your average worksheet!
You can download a sample of each sheet in the preview.
What's included:
- Teaching tips for when things are too tricky or too easy
- 5 different printable worksheet puzzles (see above)
- Black and white and color versions of each sheet
- Answer keys
Although these worksheets could certainly each be used in isolation, they work best as a progression in math centers/stations or as daily morning work for a week.
The 5 Puzzles
⭐Worksheet 1: Students solve for the missing symbols (8 in all) by answering some very simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. They then use those symbols to solve a few additional problems.
⭐Worksheet 2: Students use the same values for the symbols in worksheet 1 to order and compare the value of the symbols.
⭐Worksheet 3: Students cut and use the symbol pieces to complete equations given the operation and the answer.
⭐Worksheet 4: Students create their own equations using the symbols and solve them. You can also have the students create the equations and then trade papers to solve each other's equations.
⭐Worksheet 5: Challenge problems! These are long problems that include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division but do not require order of operations knowledge as the equations can be solved from left to right in proper order.
