Math Quests are a tested strategy that gets students excited about completing math practice during independent work and small group time. I've used Math Quests in my classroom for the past 5 years and have seen a marked increase in time-on-task, work completion, and focus during math small groups.

How does it work?

Students pick a themed Quest that they would like to complete. Students earn Quest Tags for completing pre-determined activities, such as a certain amount of minutes on a math app, a center activity, worksheets, and staying focused during small group time. Students can earn Quest Tags for any behavior that is helping them grow as a mathematician. When students fill their Quest with Quest Tags, they earn a reward.

Why do students like it?

Students love getting to pick a Quest that aligns with their interests. They feel a huge sense of pride when they complete a Quest. They have a visual representation of all their hard work.
