Description

Math Reasoning Book 2 is a continuation of Math Reasoning Book 1. These Word Problems are perfect for practicing solving and working with different types of word problems. These Words Problems have several 3rd Grade problems requiring addition, subtraction, multiplication, or rounding. The rubrics allow students to use different strategies to solve each word problem. The word problems range from one-step to multiple-step solution. The booklet contains word problems which are aligned with Common Core. Students can work independently or with a partner. In my classroom I first have students work with a partner to allow them an opportunity to explain/discuss how they solve the word problem. The more opportunities students get to practice how to solve word problems the more skilled they will become in using different strategies.

Tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Measure and estimate liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters (l). Add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving masses or volumes that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as a beaker with a measurement scale) to represent the problem.
Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
